He was a prolific writer, with over 300 scientific papers to his credit, the author wrote in the preface to this volume, and his manuscript notebooks now fill 15 volumes. The story of his life has been largely untold. The entire 100 years of the life of Jiban Mukhopadhyay are recounted in this book. The book is divided into nine parts, each one covering an epoch of his life, beginning with his student days as a student of Aligarh Muslim University. The first part covers the period from his student days as a student at the University till his Master of Science degree in organic chemistry at the University of Manchester, England. The second part of the book covers his period of service in the government of India, as a commissioner of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. The third part of the book covers his period as a teacher of chemistry in science colleges and universities. The fourth part of the book covers his contribution to chemical research as a research fellow at the Royal Institution. The fifth part of the book covers his work as an organic chemist in St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London. The sixth part of the book covers his period as a professor of chemistry at the University of Calcutta and his work as a chemical consultant. The seventh part of the book covers his contribution to the study of inorganic chemistry at the University of Cambridge, England. The eighth part of the book covers his work at the University of Paris as a professor of organic chemistry and his years in America as a professor
